This Dictionary is designed for students taking introductory and intermediate linguistics courses. It aims to provide a comprehensive list of notions that are useful for learning and using basic linguistic ideas and methods. The dictionary is the seventh and last volume of Lincom Europa’s Introductory Texts in Linguistics series. It is written in a user-friendly style so that it be used in any course as a reference text. The Dictionary focuses on notions and methods that are traditional and basic in the study of language, avoiding preference to any particular school of linguistics.

About the author

Prof. Marcel Danesi is known for his work in semiotics and youth culture. He has published as well on the meanings of popular culture and how they inform social evolution. He has also written textbooks introducing linguistics and semiotics, and published a series of books on advertising as a sign system.
