DescripciónThe event welcomes professionals, college students, and individuals interested in the existing interaction of language, culture and identity in our lives. Participants attending at least 85% of the 20 contact hours will receive a certificate of attendance from the LMU School of Education.

The current increase in migration patterns, national and international relocations, and transnationalism raises a myriad issues affecting populations worldwide: Sense of belongingness; fitting in; gains and losses; the idea of "home"; living between two worlds; new linguistic, educational, ethnic, and cultural realities and needs,... With these questions in mind, the Colloquium revolves around the following topics:

Bi/multilingualism and bi/multi/transculturalism in families, schools, and society
Impact of bi/multilingualism and bi/multi/transculturalism on individuals' and societies' perceptions of language, culture, and identity
Language ideologies, policies, and practices
Promotion, maintenance, and development of minority and heritage languages
Language shift, spread, maintenance, and loss
Implementation and outcomes of immersion, transitional, and two-way bilingual programs
Code switching, code mixing, and translanguaging
Pidgins and creoles
Sign languages (International, American, Nicaraguan,...)
Linguistic landscape
Language brokers

Impact of immigration on families and individuals
Third Culture Kids, Adult Third Culture Kids, Cross-Cultural Kids, and Global nomads
