Workshop topics
Assuming the central role of narratives in communicative interaction, with highly relevant effects on the construction and negotiation of identity and interpersonal relationships, this workshop aims to explore the narrative mode of talk-in-interaction from three complementary applied perspectives.
- First, we will reflect on the strategies of (collaborative) construction of narratives that operate in conflict mediation across various domains (family and penal mediation; couple therapy).
- Second, several contributions will focus on the use of narratives as an instrument and/or evidence of accessibility and inclusion, especially in contexts of diverse vulnerability (attention to and integration of disability; attention to minoritized and vulnerable groups; etc.).
- Finally, we will examine how narratives are approached in pedagogical contexts of foreign language teaching/learning, where they emerge as key strategies of linguistic and cultural mediation.
All three perspectives converge in highlighting the fundamental role of narratives-in-interaction as an instrument of mediation in a broad sense. The aim is to demonstrate their potential to bring together and integrate diverse subjectivities –often in conflict– and to remedy possible inequalities and vulnerabilities in increasingly plural and complex societies.
Call for oral presentations
We invite submissions for 20-minute presentations at the workshop. As the participation of PhD candidates will be especially welcome, a limited amount of travel bourses (up to 500 euros each) will be offered to the best proposals submitted by doctoral students. If you wish to apply for one of these travel bourses, please indicate it clearly in the pdf or word file of your abstract.
Event format
The event will take place on July 2nd (full day) and July 3rd (until lunchtime) 2026.
All sessions will be plenary and will include:
- 45-minute talks by the invited speakers
