The University of Wollongong offers a range of research scholarships and awards to eligible international higher degree research students. The UOW HDR scholarships are in the form of allowances to assist candidates in meeting their living costs while they undertake their research. They can include: annual stipends, living allowances and tuition fee costs. In addition, there are external scholarship opportunities as well as specific and industry based scholarships available. 1. Research environment and topics (for Languages and Linguistics)
Candidates are encouraged to consult the research interests of staff in the department (https://www.uow.edu.au/the-arts-social-sciences-humanities/schools-entities/hsi/our-people/" target="_blank">https://www.uow.edu.au/the-arts-social-s...) and liaise with relevant staff regarding possible topics. The university deadline for applications is 3rd October (Sydney), so prospective students are advised to contact potential supervisors before that to have enough time to draft an application.
The School of Humanities and Social Inquiry has a vibrant, expanding graduate research community. It regularly hosts workshops, conferences and visiting speakers on a wide range of topics. Wollongong’s proximity to Sydney offers many opportunities to interact with other researchers in the greater Sydney area.

2. Eligibility and application details
Both domestic and international prospective students are encouraged to apply. The scholarship is for three and a half (3.5) years full-time with a stipend of $AUD28,092* for 2020 (non-taxable).
PhD scholarship applicants should have:
- a record of excellent academic performance and have attained one of the following:
-- first-class Honours, Masters degree by research or equivalent;
-- additional relevant research experience and/or peer-reviewed research activity, awards and/or prizes will be regarded favourably.
Applicants are invited to discuss their proposed project with their prospective supervisor prior to submission.
