DescripciónEsta obra, que está escrita en inglés, introduce diferentes aspectos de la lingüística a través del vocabulario compartido del inglés y del español, es decir, de los llamados cognados. Es un libro pensado para estudiantes angloparlantes de español de cualquier nivel, aunque puede ser útil a cualquier estudiante de español e incluso de inglés.
El libro tiene dos partes. En la primera, que consta de 14 capítulos, se introducen de forma accesible diferentes ramas de la lingüística relacionadas con el vocabulario cognado (fonética y fonología, semántica, morfología, etc.) y con la historia y variedad de las lenguas en general y del español y del inglés en particular. En la segunda parte, que tiene en la actualidad 40 capítulos, se analizan palabras cognadas de forma amena, haciendo referencia a las secciones "teóricas" de la primera parte.
El libro no trata de impartir solamente conocimientos lingüísticos, sino también los conocimientos históricos y culturales básicos que una persona culta de habla hispana debería de tener. La obra se publica de forma "abierta" y "libre" (CC BY-NC-ND 3.0 US) y, por lo tanto, está disponible de forma totalmente gratuita. En el espíritu de las aportaciones libres, se agradecerá cualquier sugerencia de los usuarios para mejorar esta obra.
